Inaugural P1 SuperStock UK Champion John Wilson (Coleshill, Birmingham) and Neil Scarborough (Monks Risborough, Buckinghamshire) have confirmed their return to the powerboat racing series in 2012, defending their prestigious title thanks to continued backing from recruitment specialists Pertemps.

John Wilson and Neil Scarborough Double champions Wilson (pictured above right) and Scarborough, who followed up P1 150 Class success in 2010 with a tremendous title victory in P1 250 last year, in first ever season featuring the P1 Panther 28SS boat, will undoubtedly begin the new campaign as one of the title favourites.

Enjoying a second year of commercial support from West Midlands-based Pertemps, which recently came second in the annual Sunday Times ‘Best 100 Companies to Work For’ rankings, the duo will be very much the team to beat when the 2012 season commences in Plymouth on 19/20 May.

In addition to the support for Wilson and Scarborough, Pertemps is providing backing for the recently-announced Mission Motorsport team which will contest the P1 SuperStock Championship this year in the P1 150 Class boat raced by Wilson and Scarborough two years ago. Mission Motorsport is a charity established to help the recovery of injured armed forces personnel.

“We’re back to defend the championship title and we’re absolutely delighted to have the support of Pertemps again”, said Wilson, “We’ve been enjoying demonstrating the new boat to the new teams in recent weeks so now I can’t wait to get some practice in and be back racing, trying to defend the 250 championship.

“It’s fantastic that Pertemps has come onboard to help back the Mission Motorsport guys, they’re an incredible group of people and are a great addition to P1 SuperStock. I’m delighted they’re racing in the 150 Class this year and I’m really looking forward to the season ahead.”

The reigning P1 SuperStock champions were at the forefront of P1 250 throughout its maiden season last year, racing to a pair of victories during the opening event in the waters around Jersey and a further win on the Humber in Hull. The duo also took three additional podium finishes but navigator Scarborough says the aim for 2012 is to have greater consistency.

“It was great to win the title last year but it wasn’t necessarily in the way we wanted to do it”, he said, “We won races early in the season but then had some mechanical problems in the second half, so the aim for this year is to have a more consistent season and try and become the first back-to-back P1 250 title winners.
“Personally, the Cowes race is our nemesis. We’d really like to win there as it’s such a huge event. It’s also great there will be some new teams in P1 SuperStock this season, it’s nice to have fresh faces around and especially the Mission Motorsport guys. Everyone in the country has a soft spot for the armed forces and the amazing job they do, I’m proud and excited they’ll be racing with us.”

Wilson and Scarborough will begin the defence of their title at round one of the 2012 P1 SuperStock Championship, the Plymouth Grand Prix of the Sea, over the weekend of May 19-20.
